George Pierce Shelton, born in Southbury, Connecticut on September 7,1820 , was the Adjutant General for the State of Connecticut from 1848 to 1851. In addition to serving as the Adjutant General, he served in the Connecticut State Legislature and as the Town Clerk for the city of Seymour, Connecticut 〔Hickok, Charles Nelson, The Hickok Genealogy : Descendants of William Hickoks of Farmington, Connecticut: with ancestry of Charles Nelson Hickok. Rutland, VT: Tuttle Pub. Co., 1938〕 ==Career== George P. Shelton was appointed to the position of Adjutant General of the State of Connecticut in 1848 at the age of 28 under Governor Clark Bissell. Rutland, VT: Tuttle Pub. Co., 1938〕 In 1852 he and several others were incorporated as the Seymour Savings Bank, in which he was the director.
